A promising start bound to excite both readers fascinated by Leonardo da Vinci, and those looking for a suspenseful adventure yarn with a genderfluid protagonist. It remains to be seen how the suspense is maintained over an ongoing series given we know Leonardo's historical fate, but for now this is an intelligent slice of historical fantasy.

Whether or not the next issue lives up to this, this was a great idea, and the subversive take on Surak should be acknowledged and canonized in the TV shows.

All in all, this is a solid start to what will likely be another absorbing "Daredevil" run, and it's great that the emphasis on Matt's faith isn't going away after Zdarsky and Checchetto's run (not that I expected it to though, seeing as Ahmed is the series' first Muslim writer.) Welcome back Matt!

It's still a strong comic worth recommending, something to continue reading for the next four months, even if it falls short of being a must-read for the time being.

A Haunted Girl #1 |

All in all, "A Haunted Girl #1 is a lavishly produced comic with a strong, poignant premise, that may or may not have its serious themes undone by campy imagery and plot developments. For the sake of the creative team, and anyone reading affected by the subject matter, I really hope it lives up to its promise of inspiring anyone dealing with suicidal ideation to confront the demons in their lives, and win.

Invisible Differences #1 |

Overall, "Invisible Differences" is a funny, warm and touching story of self-discovery, and a beautifully rendered one: it's so stylish, almost every page could be turned into a poster, or the cover of a bag, or a diary or pencil case. Between its subject matter, and its invitingly cartoonish aesthetic, it's a graphic novel I'd recommend even to those most resistant to picking up a comic. It's simply a great comedy-drama, and it'll hopefully start paving the way for more autistic leads in comic books and media that don't conform to the usual (and often male) savant stereotype.
