To say I was stoked to review Hyperion/Marvel's new endeavors is saying something. I already went into this duo review (You can read my previous review of Hyperion'sRogue Touchright here) a little biased. I was looking forward to Rogue Touch much more than She-Hulk Diaries. Rogue was always a much more interesting character to me, but I put expectations on that book that it didn't live up to. It was a little too romance, and not enough hero.Now I'll admit I've never been a Hulk fan. A man who turned giant and green that you wouldn't like when he was angry wasn't the type of story I was into. And She-Hulk? Yet another superhero that got a female version to pacify fans. I began reading She-Hulk Diaries with no knowledge of the character, somewhat disappointed by Rogue's book, and so was pleasantly surprised.The She-Hulk Diaries is penned by Marta Acosta, author of the Casa Dracula series, Dark Companion, and Nancy's Theory of Style. Rogue Touch is an enjoyable read, but not amazing. I got some character development on Rogue, but sometimes didn't feel she was the star. The romance that should have been a side-plot took front and center. Maybe my opinions on this book being "okay" and not "great" is because other superhero novels I've read focus more on action.

This wasn't my first Ms. Marvel experience and I think the gal deserves a more coherent plot for her graphic novel volumes. Graphic novels should (in my opinion of course) be treated as an opportunity to lay out a story in its entirety. It breaks down the serialization of the comic form into something a little more easy to consume, because you don't have to wait a month for another few pages. This is the kind of hodge-podge randomness I'd expect if I picked up a stack of comic books at a flea market, not out of a bookstore bound in hardback. There are some portions of this that are really quite good, I'm just disappointed they weren't elaborated on.

It's a light read that at times feels like more of the same, but decides to step in another direction with the supernatural element. Although the ghost hunters are predictable, it's still an entertaining bite-sized Odd Thomas adventure that is worth a read for fans of the series, and worth a try for newbies.
