Fred Van Lente and Emanuela Lupacchino have crafted a brilliant and beautiful story. One that is witty, fun and packed with tremendous action. Valiant Comics is doing something bold hereThey are taking great stories and great characters and crafting each book into something very different from your everyday superhero story. Anyone not on the Valiant Comic bandwagon needs to get on quick. You dont want to be left in the dust wondering what happened when these books take off.

Charismagic #1
May 8, 2013
|
|
All-in-all Charismagic #1 takes a big leap in its first issue of this new volume, never giving the reader time to pause and think. But thats a good thing. A lot of the story is given to you when its necessary to move the plot along.

Charismagic #2
June 12, 2013
|
|
Issue two had a lot of promising and worthwhile bits of story that didn't completely connect enough dots for me. It's holding back important storylines that hinder its own growth. While I look forward to more of the Charismagic story to unfold, I can't help but hope that "wow" moment that keeps me interested comes sooner than later.

All-in-all I definitely love the concept of Executive Assistant. While the story is a little hard to chew for a first issue, and the artwork lacks a certain uniqueness, Iris is definitely a character worth exploring in issues to come.

All in all, Special Missions #2 was a solid story that ultimately left me wanting more of what I got from the initial launch issue. But I still expect great things from these Joes in their quest to rid the world of the forces of Cobra.

Idolized #4 |
Dec 19, 2012
show

All-in-all, I like what Idolized has brought to the table. It is a sharp comic that has a lot of potential to do great things. While I felt that this book was a bit stunted, due to its desire to keep key elements held back for further issues, I cant help but enjoy Joules motivations and Im curious to see where this series takes the character.

Jirni Vol. 1 #1 |
May 08, 2013
show

|
Anyone looking for a fresh take on sword and sorcery look no further than Jirni. This first issue comes out of the gate swinging, never letting us delve into the central characters ulterior motives. But thats a great thing here. It takes a slow simmer approach, guiding the reader into a completely new and realized world.

Joe Palooka #3 |

Is Joe Palooka different from most comics out there? Yes. Did it capture me with an intriguing story I cant wait another month for? No. As a whole, Joe Palooka has an intriguing concept but doesnt quite flesh out its central character, or reel me in with witty dialogue; it simply does a serviceable job.

Mars Attacks Zombies Vs. Robots #1 |

Overall, this little book was a fun exploration into the realm of what if that kept a fun, quick pace. While not inherently bad, the comic never really captured my interest nor did it leave me wanting more. For uniqueness, this story has a lot going for it, but falls short of my expectation of what Ive seen some great crossovers accomplish.

Star Wars #2 |
Feb 13, 2013
show
|
|
Im relieved to say that anyone out there who calls themselves a Star Wars fan can rest easy. This story is handled gracefully with just the right amount of action, plot and dialogue. I cant wait to see how deep this story goes and into what new realms it will take our beloved characters. My only concern right now is the impending doom that is the Disney Corporation. With their recent purchase of Everything Lucas, I cant help but think this series could soon be handled by the likes of Marvel (God knows we dont need Star Wars showing up in the Marvel Universe as some new found Universe-37B, or some horrendous idea of that nature.) My only hope is that this series maintains a great run and isnt fed to the Sarlacc that is Disney/Marvel, too quickly.

With another series of Agent of the Empire finishing up, and the ever-present story of Episode IV looming in the last page of this book, I wonder if a continuation of this story is possible. If the writers of this series can bring to life another great arc then Ill surely be ready to get another taste of what this series has to offer.

The New Deadwardians-postmortem #1 |
Dec 06, 2012
show
|
|
Image Comics is best known for its critically acclaimed Walking Dead series, and for good reason. The comic has spawned a hit television show, an action figure line, and two video gamesone currently available for download on PSN and Xbox Live and the other on its way to shelves in mere months. But if I asked you to name another well known series that involved the flesh-eating undead youd probably be hard pressed for a good answer. Thats where The New Deadwardians comes in; a zom-com (short for zombie comicmy own literary genius at work) that built steadily through its limited run throughout 2012.Beginning in March and ending in October, Deadwardians, published by Vertigo Comics, followed the investigation into a murder by Chief Inspector George Suttle in post-Victorian era England. Inspector Suttle probably has the dullest job in all of Scotland Yard for one simple reasonno one dies anymore. You see, during the mid-1800s England was plagued by a disease that seemingly reanimated the de

The New Ghostbusters #2 |
Mar 20, 2013
show
|
|
The art here is solid, coming off as cartoony, but in a fun and fresh way. But the writing and the concept here just dont do it for me; especially with the whole zapping of the main ghost threat that the new Ghost Busters deal with. Its too far-fetched a concept for me. And the whole idea that the original four are trapped in Limbo just makes me think that at some point they will be coming back. The story would feel much more believable if the Ghost Busters had retired and a new group had taken over; harkening back to the creepy, yet satisfying cartoon from the mid-90s.

To Hell You Ride #3 |
Feb 13, 2013
show
|
|
To Hell You Ride only seems to be getting more intriguing as the story wanes into its concluding issues. Blackwash, a mercenary group has quarantined the town in hopes of preventing the spread of, what Two Dogs calls, a spiritual infection. This story isnt an all out violent book, nor is it meant to build suspense with each turn of the page. Its more about the evolution of Two Dogs as a man, the tarnish of his soul and his connection with his long dead tribe of Native American brethren. While not everyone will be a fan of thegritty overtones and cookie-cutter portrayals of some of the characters,Im definitely interested to see how everything plays out in the months to come.
