I'm going to be honest with you, dear reader. This is the first Fantastic Four book that I have read in over a decade. The FF have never been my team, I've always been an Avengers guy. However, I have always hoped that Marvel would put out a book that would make it easy for me to get into the First Family. I'm happy to say that this is that book. Fantastic Four Fanfare is exactly what I have been waiting for, a series that highlights the characters in a digestible way but doesn't shy away from the long history of this team. While undoubtedly published to capitalize on the upcoming First Steps film, Fantastic Four Fanfare #1 is no mere cash grab. It is a love letter to the characters that made Marvel Comics. Whether you're already a fan of the Four or a newcomer, this is an enjoyable read. Read Full Review
Fantastic Four Fanfare issue one was an anthology featuring three FF stories. None were earth shaking or ground breaking … but were just fun. The Mark Waid story was the standout - it was a very basic Ben and Johnny tale that depicted the characters perfectly. While the Ramon Rosanas art is great at blending classic comic style with modern technique … I couldn’t help but think how great this story would have been if illustrated by the late/great Mike Wieringo. If you haven’t read the Waid/Wieringo FF run, I highly recommend it.

This issues is more satisfying than the entire current run from Ryan North.
Waid's lead story harkened back to the early days of Stan & Jack, when the shenanigans between the Thing and Torch were a mainstay. The other two stories were "meh' but it was fun to read a light-hearted comic like this.
Disappointed that instead of a full length story by Waid and Davis, we are in "the only way to celebrate big events is with inconsequential short comics" mode. Waid still knows how to write the FF, but a story with four splash pages is a waste of his skill. Davis's story is likewise pretty good but minor. Ironically, the story by Andrew Wheeler, who is unknown to me, was the best of the bunch.
The Waid and Alan Davis stories are fine but Wheeler's story was pretty uninspired imo.
