If you enjoy mystical, realm-hopping, cosmic/fantasy-style stories are open to a significant change in Stranges status quo and setting like seeing Strange evolve beyond his Earth-based roots then this new relaunch offers a lot of potential. This team really leans into the weird and mystical trappings that comes along with this character, and turns the concept askew thanks to being in realms that arent Earth. Doctor Strange #1 is a entertainingly solid first issue that gives you a clear premise, a nasty magical threat, and a specific political mess for Strange to solve, but it also demands a bit of patience for lore dumps and an over-the-top villain plan. If your comic budget is tight and you want a fully self-contained sampler, this might feel more like a paid prologue, but if you are into Strange juggling divine contracts and weird new magic systems, this is a reasonably safe buy with upside for future issues. Ivan Fiorelli‘s art adds to the awkwardness of it all. With color by Dono Snchez-Almara and lettering by Cory Petit, the art is good, but doesn't fit the sweeping fantasy Landy is attempting. The art is good and would work really well in another series but here it feels like a slight mismatch in tone and visuals. The look to the comic is more 90s Marvel animated series than “Journey Into Mystery” and that could work really well with another property. The page layouts and panels look solid and helps enhance the action of it all, but the character designs don't quite feel like they fit. Read Full Review

Videos by ComicBook.comDoctor Strange went to Asgard last year, after Doom took the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme in Blood Hunt. That particular chapter in his life saw him becoming the Sorcerer Supreme of Asgard, in an effort to get back to the Earth. He's still stuck there in this latest issue, but Doom is no longer Sorcerer Supreme, and this book needs a new identity. The identity it seems to be going for is the Asgard book; Thor is no longer the main character of that world, and it seems like writer Derek Landy wants to make Strange that character.
