Alien Annual #1 goes a few years back in time to show the Company's first live test run of a Xenomorph. Phillip Kennedy Johnson tells a solid Alien short story that has a beginning, middle, and end with a solid plot, dialogue, and pacing paired with Salvador Larroca's art gets to show off the alien Xenomorph once again. The alien itself never provides any sense of horror, only confusion, in appearances with strange perspectives and a lack of consistency. Simply viewing the text makes Alien Annual #1 an unbearable chore. Read Full Review

I suppose this is a prequel to the main series, but it didn't feel like it aligned right by the end.

The art was worse than usual (which was already pretty bad), most of the characters looked like they either had a stroke or had blob-like faces like they were made out of putty. The story didn’t make sense either, it was one of Gabe’s missions but inexplicably not one of the missions Gabe was shown reminiscing about in the initial books of the series. I’ve been pretty forgiving with the series but this has been the worst issue so far.
