Being Adrienne Palickis first foray into comics with her brother, this is an absolute outstanding issue. Syahrazads artwork is very gritty, very grounded, which really helps with the tone of the book. I get the same kind of artistic vibe I get from Marvels Jessica Jones with this, which is a great comparison to make. No Angel sets the stage for something great, maybe even angelic? I recommend picking it up while you can, its bound to be sold out at stores in the very near future. Read Full Review

The art of the issue steps away from the stereotypical bright colours and crisp costumes that heavily populate the comic industry. Instead, it goes for the depth and refined sketch style which truly makes for glorious reading. The dialogue across the issue feels very honest and real. It helps to ground these characters in a world not too dissimilar from our own… to begin with. Once Hannah's eyes are opened, nothing will ever be the same. Overall, we absolutely loved the first issue of this new series. And whilst it isn't action packed, we get the feeling that this is just the beginning of something truly unique. No Angel starts as a drama about family and grief, then rips the rug out from under you, throwing you into a horror of immeasurable proportions.  Seriously, there is one panel in particular that will haunt you for some time.  Once you read the book, you'll know exactly which one I mean.  The twists and turns at the end are earned through the top-notch character development throughout the majority of the issue. I didn't honestly know where this book was leading, and it seemed like it was just going to be a first issue that set up the characters and a bit of the setting without delving too much into the storyline. Surprisingly, Adrianne and Eric Palicki make good use of nice segways into each segment without feeling like it's being thrown at you. I'm chalking this one up as another win for Black Mask. Despite launching with less pomp and circumstance than other titles, "No Angel" should find its way to your stack if you're into supernatural fare. This introductory chapter gives us a solid footing before pulling the rug out from under us on the last page, and the story promises to be nothing if not interesting. No Angel # 1 is an intriguing, compelling ride that gives us mystery and mysticism. The Palickis do a magnificent job of introducing our lead, Hannah, while doing a little world building and establishing plotlines in a very organic way. Syahrazad and Csuka render an atmospheric, near cinematic work of art. Every single has a tone and mood alongside the progressive art. Besides the talk between Hannah and her mother, their art work is amazing. With a badass, intelligent lead in Hannah and a nice jaw dropping revelations in the last third of the book, readers will get hooked and demands more. Read Full Review

What really sold me on the book was the main character, Hannah Gregory; liking the lead character is always a key element in getting me to want to continue on with a new series. Her tough, no-nonsense, straight to the point attitude was very appealing. The final page grabbed me and really made me want to come back to see what happens next. The Palickis did a great job of utilizing the monthly format with this strong cliffhanger. That's the way to get a reader to come back for the next issue! This came out a few weeks ago and is well worth checking with your local shops to see if you can score a copy. Read Full Review

I've read many comics co-written by celebrity writers that were terrible. Thankfully, No Angel looks to buck that trend with a solid premise and well-executed opening chapter (which makes me crush on Adrianne Palicki even harder). If Csuka's colors can mesh with Syahrazad's pencils, then this book could end up being something really special. Read Full Review

Despite some aspects that feel overly familiar to anyone who has seen or read a story about a strong woman fighting off a supernatural threat, No Angel #1 is executed strongly enough by its creative team to engage readers with its interesting protagonist and well-structured thrills and chills. I was extremely disappointed by this title. Yes, I was leery of it, but I still like to give Black Mask a chance. Lately, they haven't produced much for me to enjoy. If others are enjoying it, then good for them, but I'm starting to study the solicits more and decide if it's worth the time and effort to read some of these books. No Angel certainly wasn't and I won't be back for more angel half-sister bonding time/Hollywood audition.
